Expressing Surprise
Surprised expressions are commonly related to a situation which makes us surprise or disbelieve and have interest expression. Most English native speakers often use short interrogatives in speech as a way to express attention, interest, or surprise.

Dialog 1
Azka : Hi,
Affan. Where is Farid now? I have not seen him for three days.
Affan : Have you known that Farid is
sick? He gets dengue fever. He has been hospitalized.
Azka : Are you sure? You
must be kidding me. I called him yesterday.
Affan : Yes I was in the hospital when
you called him yesterday
Azka : Oh, Really? I do not realize it.
Dialog 2
Kate : Hey Ronnie! I heard you’ll be leaving next month.
Ronnie: Actually, I’m going next week.
Kate : Are you kidding me? So soon?
Ronnie: Yeah. I have a lot to deal with when I get
there. I rented an apartment too.
Kate : That’s great. How much did you have to deposit in advance?
Ronnie: I didn’t have to pay up front. I pulled some
strings so there was no deposit.
Kate : You gotta be kidding me! This is amazing. I’m so happy for you.
